Magic & design: using witchcraft for business

Hi there, I see you.

I don’t remember exactly when I was introduced to the magical world beyond.

It feels like it was always there. I used to have dreams and nightmares as a child and always had a sense that there was something else I couldn’t see, touch or hear but always felt. I grew up in a small hippy bush town called Bellingen on the north coast of NSW Australia with a large group of single mothers around me. There’s big energy in that valley.

From about the age of 15 onwards I had panic attacks a couple of times a year with this impending sense of doom that everyone around me was going to die at some point (in recent years I’ve realised it was my Chiron wounding kicking up it’s heels, I was born on a Chiron line). I was introduced to crystal therapy in my early 20s, followed by theta healing, tarot, reiki, kinesiology, astrology, somatic therapies, feminine-masculine polarity, energy embodiment practices, past life regression, herbology, oils, akashic records, human design… basically a cascade of esoteric and witchcraft practices, tools and modalities that I use for personal enquiry, development and growth.

Why use witchcraft for business?

For me, development of the self and development of my creative business are tightly intertwined. My career fulfilment and my higher calling are not exactly the same thing but they are interdependent, and both of them are deeply affected by my emotional and spiritual state of being. Witchcraft and magical practices are my own way of working my world for good. They open me up to listening to my intuition, seeing people and situations in new perspectives, and that flows out into the rest of my life.

In my business I use esoteric practices and tools in some really tangible and strategic ways. For example sometimes I’ll organise my time to coincide with certain moon phases or zodiac dates so I get the most benefit in terms of being supported by the universe and the energy around me. Wednesdays are ruled by Mercury, so it’s an excellent time to schedule any sort of communication, like meetings or the release of a newsletter, even signing contracts or entering into a financial agreement. I believe the energy of Mercury can make it easier for your message to land in front of the right people with increased clarity and avoid misunderstandings.

My regular practices…

. Clear my house with incense or responsibly-sourced palo santo
. Clean & refresh my altar with offerings
. Communicate with my ancestors, guides & higher self
. Pull a tarot card before a client meeting & during my creative process.
. Read for myself during a creative project or whenever I’m unclear on the way forward
. Look at specific areas of my natal chart when a certain issue comes up for me (like money trauma or self-silencing)
. Talk to my friends about their charts and how each element shows up in their lives
. Practice kitchen magic, spell craft & rituals.
. Keep tabs on the moon phases & zodiac calendar.

I also ask clients about their astrological placements if I sense they’d be open to that conversation… some clients even let me read their natal chart!

ReWilding Embodiment practices, past life regressions, tarot and everyday witchcraft are mainstays in my life, but Astrology has been my biggest catalyst for self-understanding, acceptance and growth. Getting to know my spiritual blueprint gives me a deeper awareness of myself, my karmic past, my relationships, my shadows and my direction.

How does it affect my creative work?

Quite often I channel images directly into a design. When I regularly work on myself, my spirituality and my environment, energy flows more freely and I’m more in touch with my creativity.

I also work a lot with Archetypes, uncovering which ones align most closely with my client, their business and their ideal customers.

Recently I had a client who had a big stellium in one part of her chart. When I looked at the Venus placement, I noticed there was an opportunity to bring some of that energy into the brand design. Venus is how we seek, attract and receive love, but also other things we value like money, beautiful things and human connection. This client’s Venus was in Sagittarius, a sign of freedom, optimism, sentimentality and luck, so I channelled that into her design and gave her a vibrant, warm, optimistic colour palette with a vintage twist.

I could actually go on about this forever but I’d really love to hear from you! Do you have any magical practices or tools that broaden your understanding of yourself or your work? Send me an email!
